Oakland Raiders and Mrs. Fields at Children's

Visit brings holiday cheer to kids in the hospital

Raiders visit kids at Children's Hospital OaklandThe Oakland Raiders teamed up with Mrs. Fields Cookies for a visit to Children’s Outpatient Center on Dec. 1. First-year linebackers Slade Norris (#58) and David Nixon (#56), along with cornerback Chris Johnson (#37) greeted patients and staff, posed for photos and signed autographs. Mrs. Fields representatives were also on-hand to distribute plush teddy bears (with a Raiders’ eye patch!) and chocolate chip cookies in honor of two fiftieth anniversaries — the Oakland Raiders and Children’s Hospital Oakland Research Institute.

Raiders enjoy bringing smiles to patients
The players were excited to visit Children’s Hospital and bring smiles to patients’ faces.
“The first part of our job is playing football,” Norris said. “The second part is helping the community.”

“It was a blast,” Nixon added. “This is the type of stuff that you love about this job — to be able to make an impact on little kids’ lives. To come out here and meet a lot of them that are going through tough times right now and just give a few words of encouragement — it's always great to put smiles on their faces.”

Patient families thrilled to meet Raiders
Nick Martinez, a Raiders season ticket holder, was at Children’s bringing his son, Nick Jr., to a routine check-up. When he entered the lobby, he noticed the crowd. When he realized the Raiders were visiting, Martinez and his son eagerly jumped at the chance to meet members of the team.

“When I saw those black jerseys I started smiling,” Martinez said. “We got to meet the players and take a picture with them. It was awesome.”
Thank you to The Oakland Raiders and Mrs. Fields Cookies for your tremendous show of support!
