St Baldrick's event raises over $130,000 for cancer research

March 17, 2008

St Baldricks MikeOver 140 men, women, and children celebrated St. Patrick's Day at Children's Hospital's Outpatient Center by shaving their heads to support children with cancer. Cancer claims the lives of more children in the US than any other disease.

This was Children's inaugural St. Baldrick's fundraiser, designed to raise awareness for childhood cancer and to support pediatric cancer research. Volunteers raised funds through sponsorship by agreeing to have their head shaved in public to show solidarity with childhood cancer patients. Events like this support cancer research that has saved thousands of children nationwide.

Children's was one of 471 sites around the country hosting this giant national St. Patrick's day party and the event at Children's Outpatient Center raised over $130,000. You can still participate in the event by donating on-line at St. Baldrick's Web site.

St Baldrick's Foundation LogoThis event demonstrates our community's unending devotion to children and their families who are experiencing life altering illnesses. Local fire departments, businesses, compassionate individuals, patients and families all came by to provide moral and emotional support to the "shavees" and to show their support for our hospital. Thanks to everyone who made the evening a tremendous success!
