April 27 - May 3, 2008 is National Volunteer Week, a special week that offers us the opportunity to thank some of our most valuable assets — our volunteers — and to recognize the myriad of ways they help us make a difference.

Children's Hospital Foundation Volunteers are a diverse group of dedicated individuals, families, teams, and community members whose contributions are as varied as they are.

Each and every one of our Volunteers is a valued member of our team. Who are they? They include:

    • The early-risers who answer phones at 6am during Radiothon

    • The golf enthusiasts who deliver ice to all 18 holes during a benefit tournament

    • The fraternity brothers who help us with our filing

    • The cyclists who ensure safety along the Devil Mountain Run route

    • The dedicated clean up staff that fill garbage bags after an event

    • and many many others

National Volunteer Week reflects the power that volunteers have to “inspire by example” — volunteers both encourage those they help and motivate others. It was created in 1974 when President Richard Nixon signed an executive order to establish the week as an annual celebration of volunteering. And every year since that time, each U.S. President, has signed a proclamation promoting National Volunteer Week.

So, to all of our Foundation and Hospital Volunteers, we say "Thank You!". And for those who would like to join our team, we invite you to sign up on line. To learn more about our volunteer opportunities, click here.
