You're Generous!
Season's Greetings! 'Tis the season of giving, reflection, family and friends. We love the holidays and are thankful for all of your support! During this time of year, supporters of our hospital raise money, donate toys and give to Children's Hospital Oakland in different ways at a variety of festive events. Check out pics from the festivities that have happened so far!

The Peter Pan Foundation presents: The 13 Days of Christmas:
The Peter Pan Foundation is introducing a brand new original holiday musical, The 13 Days of Christmas, Dec. 16 - 19, Del Valle Theatre, Walnut Creek. All proceeds benefit Children's Hospital Oakland and our very own Dr. Joe Torkildson will be performing on Sun., Dec. 18 at 1pm & 7pm! Kayla's Precious Smile
It was just another school day for 9-year-old Kayla when her dad picked her up early because of an upset stomach. On the way to the doctor, she had a seizure in the car. What followed after extensive tests was the most terrifying news any parent can hear: Kayla had brain cancer.

A mega fundraising event for Children's Hospital Oakland
Kannada Koota of Northern California‘s (KKNC) mega fundraising event "Prerna" took place in November. Crowds turned up in huge numbers! During the event, the audience enjoyed both the musical fusion by Pt. Habib Khan and his team and the Aladdin musical ballet by Dr. Sanjay Shantharam. Ana Morales, our volunteer & event coordinator, described the event as “beautiful, colorful and inspirational.”

KKNC continues to support Children's.

Children’s Hospital Oakland designs its healthcare especially for children. At our hospital, we don’t measure things by adult standards and divide in half. And we serve almost as many hospitalized kids as all other Bay Area children's hospitals combined.

Notes & Words Essay Contest
Anyone who has cared for a child has a story that needs to be told ... we want to help you share yours.
 
As part of the annual event celebrating literary and musical talent and benefiting Children's Hospital Oakland, Notes & Words is offering an essay contest. We want your short, 800 words or less,  personal essay about caring for a child during a crisis, including medical or emotional crises or one of any one of the more common parenting crises. We welcome both humorous and serious essays. Winners will have a personal phone consultation with: Jennifer Smith, Editor at Random House/Ballantine; Andrea Barzvi, Literary Agent at ICM; and Deborah Way, Executive Editor of O Magazine. Winners will also be introduced to: Michael Chabon, Pulitzer Prize winner; Anne Lamott, New York Times best-selling author; John Hodgman, The Daily Show and HBO's Bored to Death; and Kelly Corrigan, New York Times best-selling author.

We're accepting essays from March 7 - March 21. Please email your submissions to essaycontest@mail.cho.org.   
          
Finalists will receive 2 tickets to Notes & Words on April 28, 2012 at The Fox Theater in Oakland.
