Californians Pass The Children's Hospital Bond Act - Prop. 3
It is extremely gratifying that California voters reaffirmed their support for children’s hospitals by passing Proposition 3, the Children’s Hospital Bond Act of 2008, on November 4, 2008.  These are challenging economic times for many, but California residents made the health and well-being of our children a priority.

On behalf of our children and families, physicians, nurses, caregivers and those who support them, we thank you for your support.  This bond initiative provides grants for the 13 children’s hospitals in California to make vital improvements to facilities and technologies. These bonds directly fund improvements that allow California's children’s hospitals to continue to provide the very best medical care for seriously ill children. Children’s Hospital Oakland will finance upgrades and improvements to the hospital through State bonds and private donations.  Thank you for supporting Children's.

original buildingWhy We Need to Grow
Our facilities date back to the 1920’s. Children’s has expanded its facilities over the years to meet the growing demand for its services. The hospital opened its doors in 1912 with 30 beds. Now with 191 licensed beds, Children’s is ready to grow again. In order to adequately meet the healthcare needs of the area’s growing population of children, the hospital must create space for 250 beds. Construction on Children’s new medical center is expected to begin in 2010 and be completed by 2013.  More >>
