The original Children’s Hospital, which opened in 1914 in the renovated McElrath mansion, was supported entirely by funds raised from the community by a group of visionary women led by nurse Bertha Wright. While much has changed since that time, both in the community and in medical technology, our vision remains the same: to be the finest and most comprehensive independent center for pediatric treatment, research and training in Northern California.
Thanks to generous donor support over the last century, Children’s has grown into a nationally and internationally recognized leader in children’s healthcare. As we approach Children’s second century, we invite you to join us as we embark on an exciting initiative to ensure that we continue to provide excellent, cutting-edge care to all of the community’s children. The success of the campaign and the continued success of the hospital depend on the support of visionary community leaders and friends.
