We thank the many corporations who have taken a lead role in advancing the mission of Children’s Hospital & Research Center Oakland. We are proud to count the following corporations as partners who have made generous gifts to Children's in 2008.
Bank of America Foundation
The Bank of America Foundation has generously supported the FACES for the Future program at Children’s since the program’s inception in 2000. FACES is a five-year internship program that introduces underrepresented minority high school students to the health professions. The foundation was pleased to host several Bank of America executives in January for an afternoon of events in honor of the bank’s three decades of generous support to the hospital. Costco has played a significant leadership role in corporate support for Children’s through the company’s sponsorship of hugely successful Children’s Miracle Network activities in its warehouses throughout the Bay Area. In just one month, the 24 participating Bay Area Costco warehouses raised over $900,000 in 2008.
Genentech Foundation for Biomedical Sciences
Genentech Foundation for Biomedical Sciences has been a strong supporter of Children’s FACES for the Future program since 2004. Many students who have completed the program have also won scholarships and are now attending colleges in pursuit of careers in the health professions.
Gilead Sciences, Inc.
Gilead Sciences, Inc. generously supported Children's Pediatric HIV/AIDS program in 2007. The program provides comprehensive treatment for HIV-infected and exposed children and has significantly reduced the rate of children born with the virus.
In-N-Out Burger Foundation
In-N-Out Burger Foundation has been a devoted supporter of Children's Center for Child Protection (CCP) since 2002. CCP provides a full range of medical and mental health services to children and adolescents impacted by abuse and/or exposure to violence.
Kohl’s Department Stores
Since 2005, Kohl’s has been a generous supporter of Children’s through the Kohl’s Cares for Kids program. Kohl’s annual donations support the hospital’s injury prevention program, including car seat distribution and installation, production and distribution of resource kits for special needs children, and publication and distribution of an injury prevention educational booklet in six languages. In 2008, Kohl’s generously donated $90,000 to Children’s Hospital.
Marriot International generously supports Children’s through their active involvement in the Children’s Miracle Network. Marriot’s approach to fundraising is multi-faceted. Through underwriting events, encouraging employee giving, and offering guests the option of donating points, the company raised over $80,000 for Children’s Hospital in 2008.
RE/MAX, one of the largest real estate networks in the country, is committed to supporting Children’s through the Children’s Miracle Network. Northern California RE/MAX associates generated over $13,000 in donations for Children’s Hospital in 2008.
Rite Aid Corporation
Rite Aid raises funds for Children’s through the Children’s Miracle Network by selling balloons and engaging in grassroots activities geared towards each store’s specific neighborhood. Over 80 Rite Aid stores throughout Northern California participated in 2008, organizing bake sales and carnivals, and collectively raised over $125,000.
Round Table Pizza Family Charities
Round Table Pizza Family Charities was created in 2008 and hosts an annual invitational golf tournament to raise funds for Children’s Hospital through the Children’s Miracle Network. Rob McCourt, president and COO of Round Table Pizza, created the foundation when he realized that nearly half of his employees, including himself, had some personal experience with Children's. In addition, over 150 Round Table restaurants throughout Northern California participate in fundraising activities through the Children’s Miracle Network and raised over $120,000 in 2008.
Wal-Mart Stores, Inc.
Wal-Mart has generously supported Children’s through the Children’s Miracle Network for over a decade. Twenty-five Wal-Mart stores throughout Northern California participated in 2008, collectively raising over $200,000 for Children’s Hospital.
